VC Spoke - NOUN graduates to participate in NYSC

According to the Vice Chancellor of theNational Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Vincent Tenebe, has authoritatively disclosed that arrangements have reached an advance (final) stage for all graduates of the National Open University, who are within the required age to be allowed to participate in the one year compulsory National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) for all students who graduated from other tertiary institution.

This information was disclosed by the Vice Chancellor while he was speaking to journalists in Kaduna on Monday, where the vice chancellor disclosed that the NOUN management board, are concerned and doing their best for the youths who were coming into NOUN fresh and had reached an agreement with the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) which had made it mandatory for them to pay for every graduate within the age of participating in the scheme so that they could send their names to NYSC.

According to the Professor Vincent, who disclosed and I quote below;

“We have just done that and we are currently in the final (grand) stage of the discussion with the different boards, which is to say, that all our graduates who are below the age of 30 will be admitted into the NYSC system.
Professor Vincent also went on to disclosed that they are using this medium, to tell the Federal Government that you do not deprive any graduate of Open University who is supposed to go for NYSC, because if you do that, you will be discouraging the youths from coming into the system, thereby, making education harder for people in Nigeria, and making Nigeria a third world country.
If you discourage them from coming to the Open University, you don’t have space for them in the conventional universities, and they will surely be struggles for them to enter other tertiary institution.
“If you don’t allow the Youths of this nation to go to the conventional universities, you are building up a population of illiterates, making the country stalled in education.
Not to mention that when you build a population, full of illiterates, you build up crises in your society and then you have a time bomb, which is getting ready to explode one day”
